SIDE 1
SIDE 2
I've been waiting almost three years for this album to come out... for it was that long ago that I first saw the Drifters performing live.
A tiny hotel in rustic Daylesford (Vic) was the venue for a one-off night of western swing, honky tonk blues and country boogie. The Drifters were in a supporting role on the show that night, and they were great!
Through various line up changes, a shortage of suitable venues, and the general hassles of running a band, singer Tom Forsell has led his bunch of rocking 'honky tonkers' with a determination and dedication, that becomes obvious on hearing this album.
A tight 'no frills' rhythm section, bass played bv Paul Pyle and drummer Pixie, thump away tastefully beneath the rocking electric guitar of Rob Grenville, and the superb steel playing of Peter Linden. Throw in sidemen James Black, and Jerry Hale, and you have a great band. Blend in Tom's fantastic country vocals, and you have — The Moonee Valley Drifters — I enthusiastically urge fans of western swing and country boogie to give the Drifters' first album a listen. I guarantee you'll love it as I do.
